Bought some Sainsbury’s brand New Zealand Thyme Honey:
It smells like a barnyard.
Did some research & nothing came up linking Thyme honey with bad smells unless the hive it was collected from had diseased bees. In which case, should NOT be congested.
I’ve come to the conclusion that they labelled this wrong, or in fact, the manufacturer was not entirely honest with the type of honey, as it might actually be some kind of Buckwheat honey. From what I’ve come across online, it is a favourite of homebrewers, due to its distinct odour. A lot of websites about beekeeping, seem to have a common consensus that the “manure” odour is due to the buckwheat plant & although is highly sought-after due to its , is an “acquired taste”.
If you’re looking for a cure for coughs & boosting immunity, this is the type of honey for you (if the smell doesn’t bother you). From now on, i’m sticking to honey which has a much lighter hue.
Time to get my shit together!
